The Swedish craft artist is currently presenting the solo exhibition Att förklara en kropp III, which you can see with us in November and December. Moa Håkansson has a distinctive and playful visual language. In her practice, she creates abstract, anthropomorphic forms reminiscent of living beings. The surfaces — smooth, rough, glazed, or bisque-fired — are shaped by hand or with simple tools, always with an emphasis on tactility and structure. She explores the ceramic object’s form: what makes us perceive a form as alive — as its own being?
In this workshop, Moa will teach basic slab-building and coil-building techniques. You will create your own sculpture in clay. We will work with form, structure, and surface, and you will have the opportunity to have one of your objects fired and glazed.
We work with soft clay fired at approx. 1100°C. Afterwards, you can choose between three different glazes for a professional finish.
After the workshop, the clay dries for about one week before it is fired, glazed, and fired again. We collaborate with craft artist Tovelise Røkke-Olsen — and the finished works can be picked up well before Christmas.
Moa Håkansson (b. 1987, Kristianstad, Sweden) lives and works in Oslo. She holds an MFA (2016) from the Department of Art and Craft at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHIO). Alongside her artistic practice, she teaches at KHIO, where she works as a university lecturer.
The event is supported by Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond and Kunsthåndverkernes Fond.
