Participation is free, but spots are limited – so sign up early!
Tetiana is from western Ukraine and now lives in Meråker. She works primarily with watercolour, exploring landscapes, moods, and the transparency of colour. Growing up near the Carpathian mountain range, Tetiana has a close connection to nature, and during the past year in Meråker, she has continued her artistic practice in close dialogue with her surroundings. In her ongoing project “Between Ukrainian and Norwegian Mountains,” she explores how memories and belonging can meet through the forms and colours of nature.
Watercolour workshop from 11:00 – 15:00
During the workshop, Tetiana will talk about her artistic practice and present paintings from her project – before participants are invited to paint the landscape alongside her. With three years of teaching experience, Tetiana provides a thorough introduction to watercolour painting and techniques.
For beginners, she offers a calm, step-by-step approach to paper preparation, colour mixing, and brushwork – with an emphasis on the process rather than the finished painting. For more experienced participants, she offers guidance on techniques that can be developed further in individual projects. There will be room to explore layers, texture, and new combinations of techniques – and to learn more about methods, materials, and motifs.
The workshop will be held in Norwegian, with the option for Ukrainian if needed.
From 14:00 - 15:00, the public is invited to meet the artist, view a selection of Tetiana’s watercolours up close, talk with her, and watch a demonstration of her painting process.
Participation is free, but places are limited – please register via formidling@samtidskunst.no
Tetiana Hliadchenko "The legend of the Carpathians" (2021)
Between Ukrainian and Norwegian Mountains
Through her project “Between Ukrainian and Norwegian Mountains,” Tetiana explores the artistic connection between Ukraine and Norway using watercolour. She draws inspiration from landscapes that reveal striking similarities between the Ukrainian Carpathians and Norwegian nature, using these motifs as a foundation for a visual dialogue between two cultures. The transparency of watercolour allows her to convey light, atmosphere, and the fragile bond between memory and the present. The pure, majestic Norwegian landscapes and the freshness of colours after rain evoke both recognition and longing, reinforcing her artistic drive.
Tetiana Hliadchenko (b. 1994, Vyzhnytsia, Ukraine) holds a master’s degree in Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, and Restoration from Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, and education from V. Shkriblyak College of Applied Arts. She has been a member of the Bukovinian Watercolorists Association since 2019 and has received awards such as first place in “Appeeling Art” in 2023 and 2024 (London, UK) and “Hope of Ukraine 2024” in Ukraine. She primarily works with watercolour and tapestry, as well as oil painting and pastel drawing. In addition, she has three years of teaching experience and has led several watercolour workshops for children and adults through the volunteer organization Nord Veien in Trondheim, where she serves as a board member.
