Ørjan Aas og Cathrine Dahl:
No Fun Zone

The artists has written a story narrated through the woodcuts, which is based on origin myths and that borrows a formal iconographic language from well known graphic novels.

The exhibition follows a wooden figure’s search for itself, its soul and its place in the world. The story outlines a journey through different times and places, where the protagonist faces challenges many of us can recognize: loss of individuality and safety, and unforeseen transformations within ourselves and in our surroundings.

Dahl and Aas uses processed sketches and photographs that follows internal conversations departing from sociocultural trends and popular culture. Misunderstandings and contradictions that emerges during the collaboration are welcomed as it pushes the artistic process in different directions. The project has run over several years and is still developing.

Cathrine Dahl (b. 1980, Hønefoss) and Ørjan Aas (b. 1981, Sauda) have collaborated as a duo since 2006, and they both received an MFA from Trondheim Academy of Fine Art in 2008. They have exhibited at Norske Grafikere, Haugesund Art Association, Ørlandet Culture Centre and Steinkjer Artist Society. In 2014 they were nominated for the Queen Sonja Graphic Award. Dahl and Aas are also part of the artist collective Six Ghosts Spell Unknown Alphabet.
