With a critique against society's pressure for increased self improvement, productivity and simple solutions that do not take into account personal individual differences, Maren Dagny Juell makes art that borrows visual tools, language, aesthetics and ideologies from the fitness industry.

In the exhibition “SQUAT/special features” by Maren Dagny Juell you have the possibility to book a session with a personal trainer, and try the VR-equipment through their guidance. It is also possible to try it on your own.

Through the use of VR-technology, one can experience a virtual world that questions the autonomy of the individual and the limits of subjectivity. These are subjects that interest Maren, and and how the social implications of the enclosure of the senses that comes with VR-technology. 

Maren Dagny Juel (b. 1976) lives in Ås and works in Oslo. She has a MFA from Chelsea College of Art and Design, University of The Arts, London. She has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally.
