Synnøve Sizou G. Wetten creates queer feminist short films about future human approaches to consciousness and emotions in the face of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR). Wetten delves into some of the existential questions that arise when the lines between biology and technology blur. What happens to the understanding of the ‘I’ and interactions between humans? How to relate to concepts of time? What is consciousness?

Trøndelag Center for Contemporary Art presents artist Synnøve Sizou G. Wetten with AWARENESS III, their first major solo exhibition in Trondheim.

For the exhibition at TSSK, Wetten has created a spatial installation for showing the two films, TRANSITION III (2021) and IS THIS NOW? XXYX (2019) and a clip from a scene from the upcoming film BECOMING III (2022-23). Seen from a critical queer-feminist perspective and mindset around gender, sexuality, identity, knowledge, power, and love, the films are poetic speculations about the human of the future.

Scientific and technological advances are constantly helping to shape our understanding of our existence. With her poetic and atmospheric short films, Synnøve Sizou G. Wetten explores existential questions that arise when the boundaries between biology and technology are blurred.

Through cinematic visions of the future, Wetten suggests how the world can be developed in new directions. Raising awareness and programming with queer-feminist algorithms can be a decisive key and an important premise for creating systems that are fair, social, and more adapted to interpersonal relationships. The characters in the films are people of the future, sentient creatures, and active political actors who use touch, empathy, and intimacy as radical tools. Their facial expressions, eye contact, and body language interact with atmospheric soundscapes as a subtle form of communication.

Synnøve Sizou G. Wetten (b. 1978) lives in Oslo and has received an education from the Konstögskolan in Malmö and the Akademie fur Bildende Kunst in Vienna. Wetten's work has been shown at the Sydney Biennial, the KODE art museum, the National Museum, Kunsthall Oslo, Kunstnernes Hus, Human Resources in Los Angeles, Public Art Screens/I/o/lab - Center for Future Art, Srlandets Kunstmuseum, Bomuldfabriken, the Haugar Art Museum, and Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter. Wetten was awarded the Fotokunstprisen 2019 by BKH for the film "IS THIS NOW? XXYX".

Synnøve Sizou G. Wetten (f. 1978) er en billedkunstner som bor og jobber i Oslo. Hen er utdannet ved Konsthögskolan i Malmö og Akademie fur Bildende Kunst i Wien. Arbeidene til Wetten har blant annet blitt vist på Sydney-biennalen, KODE, Nasjonalmuseet, Kunsthall Oslo, Kunstnernes Hus, Human Resources- Los Angeles, Public Art Screens/ I/o/lab - Senter for Fremtidskunst, Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Bomuldsfabriken, Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Haugar Kunstmuseum og Nordnorsk kunstnersenter. Filmen IS THIS NOW? XXYX ble tildelt Fotokunstprisen i 2019 av BKH under Vårutstillingen.
