Trøndelag Centre for Contemporary Art is very proud to introduce the Trondheim based artist Lars Skjelbreia first major solo exhibition.

The artworks presented are new productions, partly created in Los Angeles where Skjelbreia has lived in recent years.

Lars Skjelbreia explores in his exhibition the microscopic dimension as a starting point for the unfolding of the inner landscape of the psyche. By experiencing patterns, textures, and colours from a dimension we would not otherwise experience, the artist offers amazing visual and physical sensations, where distinction between reality and fantasy is blurred.

Skjelbreia is an artist who explore, re-locate and expand the human field, and create identity and recognition with nature through sculptures and installations – spanning from small to large perspectives of nature’s multifarious dimensions.

The Greek meaning of the word psyche is «life», in the form of breath developed from the verb «to breathe». «Psyche» Also means butterfly in Greek and is the name of a goddess from Greek mythology, personification of the soul.

Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.
– Chuang Tzu
Lars Skjelbreia (b. 1983, Trondheim) lives in Oslo and Trondheim. He studied at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, MFA 2007-2009 and Iceland Academy of the Arts, Reykjavik, BA 2003-2006.

The Icelandic philosopher Kjartan Ingvarsson has written a text about the exhibition.
