Listen to Jannik Abel and Lise Linnert on Goddesses, Bandages and Stolen Time
What can a used bandage and a stone picked up on the way to the mailbox tell us about the world we live in? You can now listen to the artist talk recorded at the opening of “Håndtere”.
“Things take time, and time takes things away from you.”
These words come up during a conversation between Jannik Abel and Lise Linnert, moderated by actor and performing artist Guri Glans at the exhibition opening at Trøndelag Centre for Contemporary Art on 8 October.
“Håndtere” brings together two artistic practices in which repetition, time and working with the hands play central roles. Linnert works with needle, thread and used medical bandages. Abel gathers wood, stone and bone from nature, shaping these materials with simple hand tools.
During the conversation, Linnert reflects on how the daily stitches in “Hver dag” became a dialogue with her husband Harald during his illness. Abel speaks about the goddess figures in “DE HELLIGE: Gudinnene”, about discovering forms in nature, and why reclaiming one's time can be a radical act.
The conversation moves between personal experiences and broader questions of care, activism, community and what we choose to hold on to.
