Two-Day Art Workshop for Children – Winter Break 2026
At the beginning of the winter holiday, on February 16 and 17, Trøndelag Centre for Contemporary Art organized a two-day art workshop for children aged 11–14 together with artist Astrid Ljungberg and art educator Amalie Marie Selvik.
This was a free event and was quickly fully booked. The workshop focused on sculpture and architecture. On Monday, the children cut, glued, and taped together large sculptures and architectural creations made of cardboard and paperboard. They also built smaller models and sculptures using various types of cardboard, paperboard, and textiles with hot glue guns.
On Tuesday, we worked with clay, and the children explored the material through music, and used some basic techniques for building and modeling with clay.
We drew inspiration from the exhibition “The Fox Does Not Think About God” by Markus Lantto, in which the artist explores sacred spaces, church architecture, religious symbols, and cultural heritage in his sculptures and installations.

This winter holiday program gave the children two social and creative days filled with play and artistic activities. They were able to spend time with others who share the same interest in art and creative expression.
The program was free of charge and supported by Trondheim Municipality and SpareBank 1 SMN – Community Dividend – and was promoted, among other places, through Trondheim Municipality’s website for school holiday activities.
Astrid Ljungberg has extensive experience leading art workshops for children and youth. As an artist, she works mainly with textiles and wool felting in a variety of techniques, often creating large sculptural installations that viewers can walk into.
Amalie Marie Selvik is an art educator at Trøndelag Centre for Contemporary Art, responsible for communicating contemporary art to various audiences through tailored educational programmes – for adults, children, and young people alike.
