june 11th at 7 p.m Atle Hynne bases his paintings on simple shapes and
patterns. He works with styrofoam and polystyrene which he cuts, trims and
paints. By emphasizing the sculptural qualities of his painting, Atle Hynne
wishes to underline the idea of the painting as object. His works often consist
of modules / building blocks that can easily be dismantled, and then rebuilt in
new constellations
There is a playful, but still formal rigor to his
painting that just as well refers to minimalism and constructivism as to pop
art. But most of all his painting is about constructing, regardless of what the
construction is defined as.
The dichotomy between the strictly monumental and the
playfulness of the temporary is an underlying idea in his installations. When
Hynne draws upon familiar patterns and designs like Burberry, Marimekko, etc.,
and blends them with abstract forms, it is usually in order to emphasize (in
his words) an arbitrary relation to references and to indicate that his work is
more about assembling, with a point of departure in that which is around us,
rather than on what is actually being assembled. This playful and informal
relation to references is Hynne’s approach in an ever-expanding visual world.
At Trøndelag Centre for Contemporary Art, Atle Hynne will show the work "Shuffle".
This is a wall work that consists of about 100 boards of styrofoam (size: 300x500x55
cm). A separate wall of about 7 meters is specifically constructed for
this piece.
